  • 1 min read

Rikugien opens after dark for a limited autumn season, illuminating one of Tokyo’s finest surviving daimyo gardens in a calm Japanese-style light display.

Date and time

November 25–December 6, 2026, 18:00–20:30; last admission 19:30. The garden closes at 17:00 and reopens at 18:00 for the nighttime event.

Location

Rikugien Gardens, 6-16-3 Honkomagome, Bunkyo City. About 7 minutes on foot from JR or Tokyo Metro Komagome Station, or 10 minutes from Sengoku Station on the Toei Mita Line.

Highlights

Autumn foliage and the pond-centered Edo-period landscape are lit after normal closing time, revealing a quieter, more atmospheric side of this nationally designated Special Place of Scenic Beauty.

Booking and admission

A separate nighttime viewing ticket is required. Advance tickets are ¥1,000 online; same-day tickets are ¥1,200 online or at the gate, with gate sales cash-only. The disability rate is ¥500, and elementary-school children and younger enter free. Ticket release timing and detailed sales instructions will be announced later on the official Rikugien page.

How it fits a Tokyo itinerary

Ideal after an afternoon in Ueno, Yanaka or Sugamo. It adds a seasonal evening garden experience without requiring a full-day trip outside central Tokyo.
