Tokyo Mizube Line Returns: Ride a Disaster-Response Vessel from Asakusa to Odaiba
Tokyo's public waterbus returns with an unusual double identity: the new vessel mainly serving the route is also part of the capital's disaster-response fleet.
Date and time
Service resumes on October 17, 2026. Standard operation is Wednesday through Sunday, with three round trips daily. Asakusa Nitemmon departures are 10:40, 13:20 and 16:00; schedules may change with weather, tides or operating conditions.
Location
The Asakusa–Odaiba Cruise links Asakusa Nitemmon Pier, Ryogoku River Center and Odaiba Seaside Park. Asakusa Nitemmon Pier is about 8 minutes on foot from Tokyo Metro Asakusa Station Exit 5 or Tobu Asakusa Station North Exit.
Highlights
The route follows the Sumida River beneath distinctive bridges, then passes Rainbow Bridge into Tokyo Bay, with Tokyo Skytree views near Asakusa. Service mainly uses Raiden, a 140-passenger vessel designed to inspect rivers and transport people or supplies during disasters.
Booking and admission
One-way fares are ¥600 adult / ¥300 child between Asakusa and Ryogoku, and ¥2,000 / ¥1,000 between Asakusa or Ryogoku and Odaiba. Official web ticket sales begin October 9. Same-day tickets are also sold at ticket offices; Odaiba accepts cashless payment only.
How it fits a Tokyo itinerary
Use the cruise as a scenic transfer between historic Asakusa or sumo-town Ryogoku and contemporary Odaiba. It adds city views and a rare look at Tokyo's disaster-resilience infrastructure without requiring a separate excursion.
